At Blackburn Center, we rely on generous support from community organizations, foundations and people just like you. In 2016, we continued to see incredible levels of support from people and groups from Westmoreland County and beyond, enabling us to continue to provide critical services to victims of violence and crime and to our community as a whole.
Blackburn Center offers a number of services to victims of all types of violence and crime, from a 24 hour hotline to therapy and counseling to medical and legal advocacy and accompaniment. We also have an emergency shelter, where victims of intimate partner violence can stay with their children for up to 30 days. All of our services are provided free of charge, and are completely confidential. We offer these services not only to victims themselves, but to their loved ones who have been impacted by the violence and crime themselves. Each year, we reach more than 3,000 people whose lives have been touched in some way by violence.
In addition, Blackburn Center provides services to the entire Westmoreland County community. We speak in schools, reaching approximately 15,000 students each year on important topics such as child sexual abuse to bullying to teen dating violence to internet safety and sexting. We also offer training and education programs to companies, organizations and community groups, and regularly attend health fairs to distribute literature and help spread awareness and provide information about our services. As with services for victims, our community services are provided free of charge.
As 2016 comes to a close, we ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation to Blackburn Center. Your generous gift helps us to continue to provide these vital services to both victims and the community as a whole. With your help, we can continue to work towards our goal of making Westmoreland County a community free from gender-based violence.
