Join Blackburn Center at She Sings, An Evening of Music and Art

Community is at the heart of Blackburn Center’s mission: providing services to victims of violence in Westmoreland County, and offering training and education as a way to prevent violence. This Saturday, members of our community are supporting Blackburn Center through an evening of music and art with She Sings.

Founded by Lauren Condon of The Heavenly Biscuits, She Sings will feature a variety of local musicians. The lineup will include The Heavenly Biscuits (Lauren Condon and Vanessa Beggs), Meredith Holliday, Eva Eris, and Detention (Jane Debone and Amanda O’Leary). Artist Joyce Werwie Perry will also be creating a masterpiece, as she paints during the concert. This painting will be raffled off at the end of the evening, with all proceedings benefitting Blackburn Center. She Sings will take place on Saturday, April 14th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mary Lou Campana Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Tickets are just $10, and are available by calling 412-554-9762, or at the door.

She Sings is a perfect example of members of our community coming together to support our mission. Each of the artists involved in the event has donated her time. The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg has donated the use of Campana Chapel, the sound system and a sound person for the concert. They are also covering all student admission costs. The flier was designed by graphic artist Nathan Fresch, who also donated his time and talents to the event. Lauren and Vanessa of The Heavenly Biscuits have not only conceptualized the event, but invested a substantial amount of time putting together a concert line-up, designing the event flier and handling logistics.

This is the second such event hosted by The Heavenly Biscuits. Last year’s event, Chicks with Picks, raised over $700 to support Blackburn Center. According to Lauren Condon, “It is my goal to double our contribution this year. We have already received $150 from the Latrobe Elks, so we are on our way to hitting our $1,500 mark!” She Sings — and last year’s Chicks with Picks — is a fantastic illustration of the creative ways that our supporters have dreamed up to help further our mission.

She Sings is a celebration of music and art, a celebration of woman and of life. Everyone is welcome at this wonderful event. Please join us for what promises to be an incredible night of joy!
