Join Our (Virtual) “Home for the Holidays” Party!

When you think of the holidays, the thoughts of home and family may come to mind. For many people, December is a time of joy, and of coming together to celebrate. Unfortunately, this isn’t true for everyone — but there are ways that we can help make someone’s holiday a little brighter this year.

We cordially invite you to our virtual “Home for the Holidays” party, with a goal of gathering items for our shelter residents and clients that make a house a home. The items that we especially need include:

  • Dish sets

  • Drinking glasses/cups

  • Pots & Sauce pans

  • Small appliances – coffee makers, toasters, mixers

  • Towels

  • Mops

  • Night lights for children

  • Bed-in-a-bag sets

  • Comforters

  • Full-sized sheet sets

  • Pillows

A gift of any of these items will help our shelter residents and clients re-establish their homes, which is particularly important during the holiday season. We are also asking for hats, scarves and gloves during the cold weather season.

Many residents of our shelter flee their homes with nothing at all. Your generosity is crucial in giving these women, children and men a fresh start. Think of it: you leave a bad situation with nothing but the clothes on your back, knowing that the most important thing is safety. You find shelter with our organization, then face the reality of beginning from scratch without many of the small necessities that most of take for granted. Something as small as a coffee maker can mean so much as a resident transitions to their own home.

There are two options for participating in this virtual party: shopping through our Amazon wish list, which delivers directly to our office, or shopping locally using our shelter needs list. If you pick up items locally, you’ll just need to call our office at 724-837-9450 to arrange a drop-off time.

At a time when many of us are consciously working to reduce the amount of clutter in our lives, purchasing items for our shelter residents and clients may be the most meaningful gift of all. We all have someone in our life who doesn’t need or want anything — why not show them that you’re still thinking of them with a gift that gives back? At your request, we will even send a card to your loved one, letting them know that you’ve purchased something for a victim of intimate partner violence — and thanking them for making the world a brighter place this holiday season!

We know that the holidays can be a hectic time. As you go about your shopping, why not add Blackburn Center to the list? You’ll not only feel good about it — you’ll be letting someone know that they are not alone at a very difficult time in their life.
