Announcement: Walk a Mile 2020 Cancelled

In light of the CDC recommendation to cancel large gatherings for the next 8 weeks, Blackburn Center has made the decision to cancel Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2020. We appreciate the enthusiasm and support the community has shown for this event over the past nine years, and are looking forward to hosting a delayed 10th anniversary event in spring 2021.

Blackburn Center’s mission is grounded in the concept of providing for safe and healthy communities. We stand with our local community in doing our part during this pandemic to protect the well-being of people in Westmoreland County and beyond. One way that we can achieve this goal is by cancelling non-essential events, such as the Walk.

Although the Walk has been cancelled, the need to take a stand against domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of violence and abuse has not ended. We invite you to carry on with your commitment to speaking out about gender-based violence and looking for ways that you can make a difference in your community. You can find ideas of how to do this here.

If you have donated to the Walk, the donations will be put to good use as we will be continuing to provide essential services in our community. Registration fees will be converted to donations, or you can request a refund. If you would like a refund of your registration fee, please contact Joelyn at joelyn@blackburncenter.org.

Thank you again for your support. We send wishes of peace and good health to you and your loved ones.
