Giving Thanks

Blackburn Center has a lofty mission:  advocating for the rights of all individuals to live free from domestic and sexual violence and other forms of violence by eliminating the root causes of this violence and providing for the well-being and safety of survivors/victims.

This mission – and our vision of living in a world free from domestic, sexual, and other forms of violence – isn’t an easy one to fulfill.  Over the past year, we have faced many challenges as we strove to provide the highest level of service to our clients and the community. Throughout it all, you were here for us.  This holiday season, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for each person who has supported our work.

To our employees, we are grateful for the hard work that you put in each day. This work can be difficult in the best of times. Your steadfast commitment to protecting and advocating for our clients is admirable. We cannot thank you enough for all that you do for our community.

Whether you are providing counseling and therapy, education, training, legal and medical advocacy, administrative support, civil legal services or working at our shelter, we are so grateful for your incredibly hard work and unending passion for our mission.  We simply could not do what we do without you.

For our volunteers, thank you for supporting our staff and making it possible for us to fulfill our mission. You selflessly take hotline calls to make sure that it is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You serve on boards and committees, volunteer at events, and reach out to the community at events and in programs. By donating so generously your time and energy, you help to lighten the load – and make our community a better place.

To all of our community partners and donors, we so deeply appreciate your continued financial and material support. We rely on donations as a key part of our funding, which enables us to continue to provide services to our clients and our community. Your donations of “wish list” items helps us provide important support to survivors and victims of gender-based violence throughout Westmoreland County.

Since 1976, Blackburn Center has provided services to survivors and victims of all types of violence, abuse, and crime in Westmoreland County.  Year after year, we help thousands of clients get the legal and medical advocacy and accompaniment, counseling, therapy, and other necessary support to heal. We also provide training, education, and outreach to thousands of individuals across our community. As the Victim’s Services agency in Westmoreland County, we are the only agency that provides these services to individuals impacted by domestic, sexual, and other forms of violence throughout the community. Our work is critical and necessary – and we could not do it without the support of our staff, volunteers, community partners, and donors. Each and every one of you has helped us meet a need for clients and the community, whether that means offering a safe place to live, advocating for clients in a legal or medical setting, providing counseling and therapy, or educating the public.

We are incredibly thankful for you!

In gratitude,

Renee Reitz, Executive Director
